St John's Catholic School Houses
St. John’s Catholic School has three school sporting houses, all named after prominent local figures or properties. The Cassidy, O'Keefe and Woodburn names all play an important part in our region's history and heritage.
Cassidy
Cassidy is named after John Cassidy, a important member of the Richmond community in its beginnings. He was one of the few Catholic settlers at the time who had a large holding of land. He acquired the property of Woodburn around 1830. He very graciously donated some of this property for the construction of a church for the local Catholic community. The children in Cassidy wear yellow!
O'Keefe
O'Keefe take their name from Michael O'Keefe, who was one of the school's early Principals. They were obviously named in honour of Mr O'Keefe's longstanding and valued contribution to the school's history! Their colour is green!
Woodburn
Woodburn obviously took their name from the property of Woodburn. The remnants of the estate are still in evidence today, with Hatcher's Manor taking up much of what was the original property The children in Woodburn compete in red.
